I'm not sure where to drop this, but for now I'll toss this in Anime, because I was sorta going for a Japanese brush style and it does depict a Japanese swordsman. I wasn't necessarily going for sumi-e brush, though, 'cause I can't really mimic the texture of the brushstrokes and ink... and there's a whole philosophy of technique behind that which I'm not fully versed in, anyhow. Somehow I think I ended up with more of a Hirschfeld style.
The idea here was to convey motion and form with very few lines. Drew it in Manga Studio EX, mostly with vector brushes, so it's totally digital... had a loose guide to follow (which was drawn in Photoshop by shacho Norton) but for the most part this was pretty much freehand. Total time, 'bout 20 minutes.
Soooo... yeah. More "outside the box" type-stuff. It's good to stretch.
-EDIT-
Got a couple paper textures off the Net, layered 'em together and played with the hue and saturation levels to gussie it up a little. Took about 45 minutes if you count all the fiddling... about 5 minutes of which was actually required to achieve the final effect. Lord, I do love digital tools.
