One of several illustrations I created as part of a MESS Studios subcontract for White Wolf's RPG Exalted in July of 2006, specifically the most recent supplement Scroll of the Monk. The book shipped Nov. 15, so if you're a player you'd best get to skippin'.
This particular illustration depicts a punch in which all of the opponent's chakra points explode with light. I was instructed to use a specific type of monster, but I was given free rein on the design of the fighter, so I had a little fun with that.
The top one is the rough red sketch, submitted for approval. The middle is the line art, and the final is the greyscale treatment as it appears in the book. The greyscale painting was done by Jeff Simpson. So just to be clear... 1 & 2 = me, 3 = Jeff.
I like drawing Exalted material quite a lot, 'cause it appeals to both my fantasy and anime fanboy roots. I'd do it more often, if I could just get paid for it.
You know, this is the sort of thing that hammers home... Heroic Mortals can be Epic Heroes. Yet they still get their asses kicked by the Dragonblooded, who are even more Epic. Who will in turn get curb-stomped by any half-competent Lunar or Sidereal, because they are that EPIC. And those still don't compare to Solars, who are just plain crazy.
Just keep practicing... just like sports or music, most of us have to do it a lot before we're good at it. I like that demon head in your Featured slot.

By the way, I love the picture!!!
