This is the line art and final colors for the Mystic Eye Games tabletop toy battle strategy game, Giant Monster Rampage II: World War.

The game revolved around recreating giant Godzilla-style city-crushing monster battles, and pretty much every type of giant monster could be created using the game rules, from Godzilla to The Blob. using any toy, model, or figure you wanted (the game rules were in fact called the Toy Battle System). You created stats for your giant monster and then battle your friends' giant monsters on tabletop cities with soda can skyscrapers and math book monuments. There were rules for army interference, various powers and special abilities, and so on. I'm told it gained quite a little following, even a couple of fan sites.

The GMR series was the first time I was given a book of my own to illustrate, where I was the whole artistic show, and I tried to treat it well. This work is actually about two years old, but for various reasons I've kept it off the page until now. The line art is drawn on Bristol with Microns, at about 10x15 or so, and then it was scanned and colored in Photoshop... probably my first Photoshop job which I have continued to remain proud of, such as it is, over the years.

The large amount of empty space at the top is, of course, to allow room for the title and so on.

Those spiders rock the world. Great monkey.
And above all: Fantastic perspective.
:iconinkthinker:
It's a trick, really... in actuality, if you look closely, the perspective is horribly flawed, but I kinda covered it up.

The spiders were actually not my first choice... the AD for MEG wanted to play off the recent release of Eight Legged Freaks, which was kinda pointless since the book wasn't actually printed until almost a year after this work was completed.

I actually REMEMBER when you first posted this on PencilJack! Holy bejeezus!

...at least I THINK you posted it before. Should I just shut up now?

Naw, I posted it on PJ back when I did it.

My reluctance to post "real" work, i.e. work I was paid for and for which I've transferred copyright, is due to the TOS agreement that DevArt has in place. They can use anything from my gallery for promo purposes, which is fine with me, but might not always be fine with my clients.

I don't think my work is even close to the really impressive stuff that I see from others here, though, so I should be greatly surprised if DA chose my work for their own purposes.
:iconpimpchimp:
Fair enough. Just making sure I wasn't completely screwing you over.

Hey dude, you make some stellar stuff - don't sell yourself short. Sure, there're people on here with amazing work - but there're ALSO people on here with extremely vacant schedules, if you catch my drift. Just keep doing what you're doing, because you do it well.
