Iron Dynasty Armor II by Inkthinker Iron Dynasty Armor II by Inkthinker
Armor designs for Reality Blurs "Iron Dynasty" RPG setting.

Unlike the weapons, I was allowed a lot more freedom to make up these armor designs, though I still needed to base them on historical precedents whenever possible. Each design is wrapped around an invisible figure in order to maintain a focus on the armor rather than the character wearing it. There's a lot of details in there, you'll want to check out the full-size Download version to see them all.

Each armor follows a theme in its construction and appearance. Some of them are more fantastic than others, but in all cases I tried to keep it grounded in some sense of realism.

A) Ceramic armor, glazed and fired clay that's surprisingly light and strong, with an almost glass-like finish.
B) Iron armor. Got a definite karasu/tengu theme going on there. Incorporates small bones as a decorative accent.
C) Studded and interlaced leather, accented and backed by coarsely woven cloth.

You might note that some of the designs carry weapons. I based the proportions of those weapons on those on the Weapons sheet, but I never repeated the details. It's too much fun to make up new ones.

May I use the last one as armor for one of the characters in my story?

If you're publishing it anywhere, (including online) then I can't give you official permission for that. I wish I had more leeway, but that's the nature of client work... it's been bought and paid for.

I appreciate you asking though! I would offer to do a new version for you if my schedule weren't locked to hell and back. The best I can suggest is that if you can find someone to create a new image for your story, you can certainly show them this and say, "something like that". I hope it helps some.

Well my story isn't a comic, it's a fanfiction. But I was thinking of showing the character and his guardian together, where he is wearing the armor. So, just a picture, but the armor design will go to you.

It's not a question of credit, but rather of copyright. I can't provide an official sanction on the usage of the work because those rights lie with the client. I get an exception for use in self-promotion (hence the appearance here), but that's limited strictly to myself and for that purpose alone. I wish I could help, but that's the official line.

Hi, I really like your work and would like you to create a character for me. I have some reference images that I can email you.
Of course I would pay you a reasonable amount, and give you credit.
The character would be a futuristic samurai with off white or black stealth armor.

Hi.

I have an idea of a character.

The character is a musician from the future.

So I need a concept drawing, so that armor can be made, and also to use the images for promotional purposes.

The end goal is to have music videos and tours in the suit. Basically 1 step up from daft punk.

I have a folder of reference images that I can share.

The character has basic armor, which would be similar to the flat stealth panels on US Planes etc

I want it to be either black or slightly blue/grey white armor.

Can we skype or google hangout chat about it, so I can explain better and answer questions as well as send the reference files.

You can send me a Note, but it sounds like what you're looking for is a costume design, which may not be the same as a promotional image. The former is going to rely a lot more on accurate, real anatomy (yours in particular, if you plan to wear it) and practical application of forms, whereas a promo image just has to look cool and exciting.

I may not be the best person to help you with the former, it can be really complicated to design armor that someone can actually wear, things like weight and composition and allowing space for real movement become actually important.
