Yeah, it only took a month and then some to get around to it.

>_<

So anyhow, this is the promised prize for , who managed to nab the 50K win back in January. Standard contest... you get the screenshot, you get an illustration of any character of your own design. This isn't exactly the prize I promised, but I felt a little bad for taking so long to get it together, and besides... I'm making excuses to use Comic Studio. So I kinda went off on it, kicked it up from a pencil sketch to a finished ink piece.

The character is ©Levivega, and I gotta admit that I sacrificed a little clarity of character design in the name of a cool action shot... you can't really see his whole jersey, which is a pretty important iconic element, but I hope no-one will mind much. The other guy is a fairly generic luchadore-type muscle monster, who's about to become a whole lot less pretty.

This is inked completely in Comics Studio (Manga Studio), over a rough pencil sketch. The image is sized at 10x15 and 600dpi. The text and some final tweaks were done in Photoshop. All that crazy impact line action is a trick that Comic Studio does, by the way... and speaking as someone who's spent a LOT of time drawing stuff like that by hand, let me tell you that I don't feel one whit of guilt for letting the computer take care of it... it's a pain in the ass.

So instead of a pencil original, I'll be sending the hires PSD for this image to Levi, as well as sending him the original pencilled rough that I used as the underlying basis for the digital inks.

-EDIT-

Uploaded the pencil sketch to my Scraps. Check it out: [link]

That is one awesome image. It just REEKS of awesomeness. Big wrestling fan right here, so I would find it very interesting. I wonder which way the guy delivering the move went, did he lift him overhead Cop Killa/Vertabreaker style, or is that one mean looking Unprettier? Hmmm...

I'm not quite versed enough to really get into a tutorial... I'm kinda learning as I go myself, since they made so many changes.

It has got a Manual, though, or it should. It's a pretty decent guide to the overall toolset, and they should have included a sample manga for you to deconstruct.

Haha, amazing. Definitely a favorite. You can whip out some amazing stuff with manga studio, I wouldn't have thought it to be your style to ink like this, but your art looks perfectly natural. :+fav: And congrats! :D

So, you drew it in pencil and inked it with an ink pen, or tablet? Because I have never been able to do clear inkworks. That's awesome.

Yep, that's the basic process. It takes a lot of practice, but the flexibility of the digital environment allows for mistakes to be constructive.

I nearly did this to a fellow poet at a convention once.
