Based on the novels Mistborn and The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, "mistborn" are people with the sort of powers that make hopping across gothic spires a regular method of travel. Black ash falls from the sky like snow and stains the city, and a thick mist fills the streets.

The garment she's wearing is a "mistcloak", described in the first book as being "made of hundreds of long, ribbon-like strips [...] sewn together at the chest and shoulders, but mostly they hung separate from one another, like overlapping streamers" (p.90). It doesn't do anything particularly magical, but it's the signature attire of the Mistborn. Aside from that, her knives are glass, her pouch has a cord that can be pulled to quickly drop it from the belt, and the character is described as usually wearing trousers and a shirt and being barefoot.

I try to get the details right. :D

Doodled in Manga Studio EX, not more than a couple hours work on the 9x12 tablet.

I really like the sense of direction in this one! How the background moves your eye upward. Very cool and nice details with the figure! :D I might have to read this novel...

Dont let the smile fool you...Im really a nice guy.

Pfft. Benefits of silhouettes and cut-n-paste, more like. The most time was spent figuring out how to keep her cloak from looking like a giant pom-pom.

:D

I like 'em. Sanderson creates an interesting and surprisingly deep, logical magic system, and he's a good writer on multiple levels (action, character, subtle plot twists). He also does a how-to writing podcast with the creator of Schlock Mercenary (one of my favorite webcomics) and horror writer Dan Wells, and he's a prolific annotater on his website, which appeals to the detail nerd in me to no end. He's also the guy tapped to complete Robert Jordan's mega-epic Wheel of Time series, so if you're into fantasy he's definitely someone to check out.
