Description

It's been a while since I posted any "old work" (stuff done more than a couple years before I post it), but I found this in a dusty corner and thought it still had some shine.

This is the final composite plate animation for a segment to the Fates short film Kuro Kumo, which we made back in 2006 and took to SDCC and a couple other places. We did a trio of these chambara sequences, each in a different style, and interlaced them with a narrative about a woman who's having intense dreams of her past life. I really loved doing these, and I'll see if I can post the others.

I'm pretty sure I did all the line and shadow animation for this, so I guess I'm "the animator". The paint and the FX pass were Fates crew, but I'm not sure who. And it seems to be missing a highlight FX pass, so it's a little dark.

The line art you see up there in the placeholder is from the film (part of the opening titles), but it's not in the style of the animation. More's the pity, I'd love to do it like that but OHHhh, what a lot of work that would take.

And it would look awesome. :D

©2006 Humouring the Fates, Inc. I wish this had the audio, it's so much better with the sound effects in place. However, I think you can see this segment with audio on the Fates website.

If you're having problems seeing it, check to make sure you have the most recent version of the Quicktime Player installed for your browser. The awesome thing about the Quicktime player is that you can move along frame-by-frame... just pause and use the arrow keys.

Additional fun fact: the final version of this sequence that appeared in the short was a bit gorier, with no mercy at the end. But I like this version better.
