Artist's Comments

The animation in this is the same as the one I've submitted previously, here: [link] , BUT... we ran it through the editing station for fun and tossed in sound effects. And it's really a good example of an adage which I heard recently that covered something I'd noticed in all my favorite films. And it goes like so:

"Sound is 70% of what you see".

In animation, where there is no such thing as "incedental audio" captured during the shoot... every sound you hear in any anime or cartoon or animated movie is placed with deliberation, and the difference between good sound and bad can make or break a film.

How many times have you seen characters in a cartoon (this happens a lot with the more cheaply produced daytime kids cartoons) walking through a crowd and talking to each other... and that's all? Perhaps some music, perhaps some footsteps... but they're in a crowd! Why aren't there the souns of many people, that constant ocean of murmurs and half-heard words and so forth? The little things like that make all the difference.

At any rate, here's the Skirmish with a good dose of sound effects from the Fates vault. Sorry for the itty-bitty image size, but sound ain't small. Compare it to the larger (silent) version and see the difference a little sound makes.

Awesome work Ink! Love the animation and you're spot on about the sound! I gotta know what your process for this animation was from pencil to sound, fill me in man! Cheers

Freakin badass. All the sound FX are spot on, but the heavy breathing doesn't seem to match his actions though. Sounds mild compared to all the moves he's doing.
:iconninja-raven:
Wow, I assumed the sound had been ripped from a movie with the animations done to match. Great stuff!

the sound really adds to the animation and compliments it well! and a good point too that sound - it's not something people realise that it's so deliberate until they actually make the animation.. :D

End.

The sound does improve this greatly. Also, I am all about the way you do the sudden, fluid pans with the camera. And if there is one weapon I never get tired of, it's the spear.
