All this week over at Skullkickers.com Jim Zub is serializing the six-page story I drew for his "Tavern Tales" anthology back in 2011! Written by Zach Weiner of SMBC, hit the Download to check it out at full 16x12, and check out the pages on the webcomic to read the script and see it in full, glorious color by Espen Grundetjern.

Pages 03 and 04 form the bridge on this 6-part arc. I really enjoyed doing the little onomatopoeia lettering for the sneaking. I'm a big proponent of hand-letting, especially when it comes to sound. It's also the best way to create unique voices in your dialog, but that takes a more masterful hand than mine. And you gotta be careful using fonts to create different "voices", a little of that goes a very long way.

I'm also a big fan of the way page 04 works to encourage you on to the next page. The "slash" effect I did here feels weak, but I think it works well enough to do what I intended. The outfit for the evil queen is a little ridiculous, but that was as it should be.

Drawn in Manga Studio EX v.3 on the Cintiq. Check out Skullkickers online, Jim's publishing the entire back catalog, so it's easy to catch up, and when you find out that you love it you can jump ahead of the webcomic by moving on to the print! It's awesome!

Love the slash effect :). In a way, apart from the ruining of the book, it would be kinda cool if it came pre-cut :)
