Companion sketch for the full "Sleeping Soldier" illustration -> [link]

This was done just to put all the armor pieces together in my head, so I could take 'em all apart again. The dummy in the background is terrible, but I'd been playing a lot of The Mark of Kri. I like the design a lot, actually... the curve in the shield is to aid in visibility and deflecting blows away from the head, but it might be vulnerable against a left-handed opponent, who could bash it away and slip past it more easily. And the knees here are espescially vulnerable, but the whole design is intended to be very light, all things considered.

With armor like that, I'd really think she's really not a soldier so much as a freelance fighter. But I like alliterative titles...

Slightly old sketch, about a year... but I've been thinking of bringing the illustration back to life.

You can't defeat the D so easily.

VERY nice...Impressive as hell...

Two uneducated comments on the affectability of the armour: There is admitedly a slight vulnerability around the knees, and she could easily be hamstringed, and the thigh protectors (sory, i forgot the name :/ ) look as if they curve in too much above the knee, hampering movement of the leg, and possibly being dangerous if hit...

Apart from that, it looks really good... as opposed to what you said in the other picture the gorget seems to work well to me. I like the all-over design a lot, and it seems a very servicable armour... a per the shield I think the disadvantage versus a left handed opponent would be substantially less than the advantage against others, as much of the blocking of a leftie would probably be done with the sword anyway, given the unwieldy-ness of a shield, it would be very hard to use the shiled to block that side...

Okay, now I'm done pretending to know what I'm talking about and probably making a great twit of myself, and I'll just stand around admiring the art-work :)

Naw, you're right about the legs... I think it would help if the thigh armor swept out and down along the outside of the knee some, protecting the side and somewhat of a defense against a knee bash or hamstring slice.

I wish I had armor like that, ony you know, for the male persuasion...

everybody's rooting for the soldier.
I, for one, am a fan of the dummy with x's for eyes.

I really like the ventilated faceshield.

drawings like this always makes me wonder what it would have been like
back in the days where you lived by the sword.
must've sucked not having plumbing and all.

why not rise again?
why not fight with all your soul?
why not bring your enemy's fear to their face?
why not fight till there is nothing left,
why not burn your own light till the entire verse must shield their eyes

why not be a hero?
:iconsilvert0ngue:
Yes, I think that would work better...
