Usagi Yojimbo by Inkthinker Usagi Yojimbo by Inkthinker
Here's my love letter to Stan Sakai and his famous bodyguard ronin. I'm proud to say I own every single issue of the comic, all the way from the Fantagraphics days to the latest issue from Dark Horse. I've been reading it for decades, and it's still one of my favorites.

Four hours total work, Microns and brush on sketchbook paper, Photoshop colors. Check out the inks -> [link]

I know Stan goes with the three-finger hand, but I can't do it... I used to do it for years when I was cartooning for the kids, but nowadays I just feel like I've missed drawing the pinky whenever I try, with rare exception. Hands are useful for expression, so why trim them up?

Usagi Yojimbo is © Stan Sakai, all rights are his. Respect that man! He's never stopped producing a brilliant book for something like 15 years now. Check him out at the official Usagi Yojombo Dojo ->[link]

-EDIT-

Thought it needed a little something.

I recommend it. It's one of my favorite series. :D

It's been collected into several volumes, which are often found in good public libraries. You can pick up almost any of the books to start with, as the nature of the stories makes 'em pretty easy to get into... from time to time he'll do a big story arc, but often he tells stories in small chunks, 2-3 chapters at a time, and so far as I know all the collected books are really good about not starting or ending on the action, so any one book should be a decent collection of stories. I recommend the later stuff, when the artwork is at his best, and at worst you might have to deal with the occasional "guest star" characters where Sakai doesn't do a lot to explain who they are or their relationship to the main character, but it rarely matters to the plot in hand.

It's probably my third or fourth favorite samurai series of all time, behind Vagabond, Blade of the Immortal and Lone Wolf & Cub... and honestly, LW&C kinda has to fight for third place there, in my book.

Sweet!! What'd I win? Cash? Cookies? All-expensese-paid trip for two to the sunny shores of Sasayama to see the singing summer samurai shimmy by the seaside?

Possibly... chocolate chip cookies?
