Getting back into the habit of drawing a warmup before I roll into the day's work. Drawing whatever I feel like drawing.

This turned into an armor design exercise over a pose that's not well-suited to armor. It was challenging to figure out how to make it feasibly flexible. Quick slap of tones for values, then a trio of Hue/Saturation Overlay adjustments for the color.

PS CS5.5 on Cintiq 21UX. About two hours, most of that spend dicking about with Hue/Sat masks.

Absolutely brilliant armor design

I really like the helmet for some reason. You could play with a differnt idea than standard armor, the hinges are on the sides and the helmet opens like a double windw rather than a visor.

Then I'd have to split it in the middle though, and that would create a weak spot unless it was backed by a framework inside.

Though that does give me an idea for another design... thanks! :D

how does it work at the moment? a seperate piece held in place by the straps on the side?

Something like that. The rings might be a quick-release mechanism.

I was asking about the helmet but I can also see that maybe working with the rest of the armor too.

On the helmet as well as the rest (there's a ring on the lower strap). Though I have no idea how you'd set up a strap so that it would release if you pulled that, and I reckon that would be a weak point on the armor if someone else knew it (or if it just got caught on something during a melee) so ultimately that's probably an idea for the bin.
